Turks and Caicos (T&C) is a British Overseas Territory and archipelago of 40 low-lying coral islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Over recent years, and with the aim of encouraging investment from international institutions and firms, T&C has introduced a number of legislative measures, including legislation on banking, confidentiality, companies, insurance and trusts to name a few. The desire to create a strong and reputable finance industry in Turks and Caicos remains central to Government policy. This webinar will focus on developments and opportunities in T&C and will be led by David Stewart, a UK qualified lawyer who has lived and worked in T&C since 2015.

Speakers:

David Stewart is a Turks and Caicos Attorney-at-Law, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and Managing Director of Coriats Trust Company Limited (“Coriats”) , a Turks and Caicos Licensed Trusts Company which has been the leading Trust Company in the Turks and Caicos for over 42 years. Coriats has Trust License Number One in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and is regulated and licensed by the Turks and Caicos Financial Services Commission.

Currently David leads the Coriats Trustee team with Coriats’ Chairman, Christopher Coriat (who has over 40 years of experience as a senior trusts advisor) alongside a capable team comprising Trust Officers, compliance professionals and accounting professionals. Unusually for a professional trustee, David has a very substantial background in contentious trust matters due to his experience over 20 years as a partner in two large UK law firms. He also has a strong background in trust and estate planning for high net worth families, both in the UK and internationally, particularly in the Middle East. David has worked across the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and the Middle East as well as the Americas, and has very broad experience of a large number of common and civil law jurisdictions.
